Delegate Countdown - 283 Pledge Delegates Needed!
Barack Obama needs a total of 283 Delegates to cross the 2,025 Delegate finish and claim the nomination. A 134 Pledge Delegates are needed to claim take the majority of Pledge Delegates and 283 Delegates in total to in the remaining 9 contests (there are 408 Delegates at stake in the final 9).

David Plouffe, Obama 08 Campaign Manager, said that if Mrs. Clinton won 55 percent of the remaining pledged delegates - an assumption he called "overly generous" - she would still need about two-thirds of the remaining uncommitted superdelegates to reach the 2,025 delegates needed to secure the nomination.

Super-Delegates Go Obama This Week - 8 Announced
Obama now trails Clinton by 18 superdelegates, 249-267. This week, he picked up eight superdelegates while she netted three. - Associated Press, May 1, 2008

Mr. Obama has also picked up superdelegate support from Democratic members of Congress in relatively conservative districts - despite efforts by Republicans to make Mr. Obama a liability for Democrats running in competitive districts, including campaigns for two open seats in the South that are under way. Representative Baron P. Hill of Indiana and Representative Ben Chandler of Kentucky endorsed Mr. Obama, for example, and both face the likelihood of stiff Republican challenges in the fall. On Thursday, he got a boost from a high-profile defection: Joe Andrew, a former Democratic national chairman appointed by former President Bill Clinton.

Obama Results and Delegate Count:
The Obama campaign's website shows Obama leading with 1,742 (249 super-delegates included) to Clinton's 1,600 (267 super-delegates).

+ Obama continues to lead the delegate count -- 1,742 Obama to Clinton's 1,600 - Obama by 142
+ Obama continues to lead the contest count - 30 Obama wins to 15 Clinton
+ Obama continues to lead the popular vote count by 500,610 votes
+ (Obama: 14,417,619 votes vs. Clinton: 13,917,009 with PA results)

Media Delegate Counts:
This week's Media Delegate Count roundups:
+ ABC is showing Obama with 1,737 vs 1,596 Clinton --- Obama by 141 (+4 this week)
+ CBS is showing 1,731 for Obama vs 1,596 Clinton --- Obama by 135 (+3 this week)
+ MSNBC is showing 1,738 for Obama vs. 1,601 Clinton --- Obama by 137 (+5 this week)
+ NYTimes is showing 1,734 for Obama to 1,592 Clinton --- Obama by 142

9 Contests Remain and 408 Pledged Delegates
May 3rd is Guam with 4 delegates and on May 6th there are a total of 187 delegates at stake in Indiana and North Carolina. After the upcoming contests of Indiana and North Carolina there are six remaining contests with at total of 212 delegates.

Clinton needs 150+ delegates to move ahead of Obama over the next 9 contests. This is mathematically extremely difficult - 70% of the 408 is required in the next 9 contests to gain the 150+ delegates. After May 6th with 6 contests remaining and 281 delegates 80% of the delegate will be required to close the gap !

May 3.....Guam-4 delegates

May 6.....Indiana-72 delegates
May 6.....North Carolina-115 delegates

May 13….West Virginia-28 delegates

May 20….Kentucky-51 delegates
May 20….Oregon-52 delegates

Jun 1……..Puerto Rico-55 delegates

Jun 3……..Montana-16 delegates
Jun 3……..South Dakota-15 delegates

Successful "drive-by" event held on West Cliff in Santa Cruz
June 16, 2007

15 Obama Santa Cruz volunteers inspired the motorists, cyclists, skateboarders and walkers on beautiful West Cliff Drive for 3 hours. The group held up a new set of "burma shave" messages that clearly communicated the reasons that Barack can make a difference in changing the course of our country. Dozens of cars and people stopped for free bumper stickers and to see how they could support our local effort with time and donations.

Clinton Super-delegate Switches to Obama

A leader of the Democratic Party under Bill Clinton has switched his allegiance to Barack Obama and is encouraging fellow Democrats to "heal the rift in our party" and unite behind the Illinois senator.

Joe Andrew, who was Democratic National Committee chairman from 1999-2001, announced his support Thursday in his hometown of Indianapolis to urge other Hoosiers to support Obama in Tuesday's primary, perhaps the most important contest left in the White House race. He also has written a lengthy letter explaining his decision that he plans to send to other superdelegates.

"I am convinced that the primary process has devolved to the point that it's now bad for the Democratic Party," Andrew said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Bill Clinton appointed Andrew chairman of the DNC near the end of his presidency, and Andrew endorsed the former first lady last year on the day she declared her candidacy for the White House.

Andrew said in his letter that he is switching his support because "a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists (Republican) John McCain."

"While I was hopeful that a long, contested primary season would invigorate our party, the polls show that the tone and temperature of the race is now hurting us," Andrew wrote. "John McCain, without doing much of anything, is now competitive against both of our remaining candidates. We are doing his work for him and distracting Americans from the issues that really affect all of our lives."

Andrew said the Obama campaign never asked him to switch his support, but he decided to do so after watching Obama's handling of two issues in recent days. He said Obama took the principled stand in opposing a summer gas tax holiday that both Clinton and McCain supported, even though it would have been easier politically to back it.
